A Dinajpur court has issued an arrest warrant for BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman in a case over his alleged defamatory remarks about the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ahsanul Haque issued the warrant on Wednesday in the case filed by Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Dinajpur district unit leader Parvez Ahmed Chowdhury Parag on Dec 23, 2014.
Shamsur Rahman, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said it was alleged in the case that Tarique made the derogatory remarks on the Bangabandhu at a programme in London on Dec 15 2014.
The plaintiff alleged he was defamed as a Bangladesh citizen because of the comment.
Lawyer Parvez said the court had earlier summoned Tarique and subsequently issued the arrest warrant as he did not turn up.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique, who lives in London, faces arrest warrants in similar cases filed in various parts of the country over the same remark.
