A Chittagong court Monday issued arrest warrant against ABM Mohiuddin, former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and president of Awami League of Chittagong city unit, in a case filed in connection with amassing wealth through illegal means.
Judge Md Ataur Rahman of Divisional Special Judge Court passed the order.
The court issued the arrest warrant against Mohiuddin as he did not appear before it, ACC counsel Mahmudul Haq Mahmud told the Dhaka Tribune.
In 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against Mohiuddin for amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 2.9 million.
ACC Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain Khan submitted chargesheet against him. Later, on Feb 5, 2009 the court indicted the Awami League leader.
The High Court stayed the case for a long period.
In November last year, the HC withdrew the stay order and ordered Mohiuddin to surrender before the trial court.
