The Islamic Front Bangladesh chairman threatens tougher programmes if killers not arrested
Bangladesh Islami Front, a platform of several Islamist groups, has given a 48-hour ultimatum to the government for arresting the killers of Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi.
MM Mannan, chairman of Islamic Front Bangladesh, told this to the Dhaka Tribune over phone.
He said tougher programmes would be declared if the culprits were not arrested within the given period.
Faruqi was a Presidium member of Islamic Front Bangladesh – a platform of several Islamist groups.
On Wednesday night, unidentified armed assailants slaughtered Faruqi, presenter of religious programmes on Channel i, at his own residence in the capital’s East Rajabazar area.
The deceased was also the Presidium member and international affairs secretary of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat – an organisation known better for opposing the views of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Apart from anchoring programmes titled “Shantir Pothe” and “Kafela” on Channel i, he owned Faruque Tours and Travels Private Limited, a Hajj agency, and served as the imam of Supreme Court mosque.
