‘Arming Jamaat won’t work’

Munshiganj-PM-tm
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina blasted the main opposition BNP on Tuesday, saying that its efforts at creating trouble by arming the Jamaat-e-Islami to dislodge the 14-party-alliance government was sure to fail.

“No one will be able to come to power in future through undemocratic and unconstitutional means. The next general election will take place in proper time and it will be free and fair,” she said.

Hasina made this remark while speaking at a mammoth rally organised by the local unit of the ruling Awami League at the Bumarbhog Padma Rehabilitation Centre ground at Louhajang Upazila in Munshiganj.

The Awami League President thanked the Leader of the Opposition, Khaleda Zia, for fielding BNP candidates in the mayoral elections to four city corporations.

In a pointed reference to the BNP chief she said, “You had issued a 48-hour ultimatum for us to quit, saying we (the government) won’t find an escape route otherwise. Now you seem to be the pedestrian who has lost the way.”

“Your ultimatum or giving arms to the Jamaat to create anarchy and dislodge the government in order to foil the ongoing war crimes trial won’t succeed,” she said.

People were more conscious now than ever before, she said, and attempts to grab power through foul means were sure to fail.
“Come to power democratically. The vote and state power belong to the people. Their franchise will decide who gets to govern the country,” Hasina stressed.

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, local MP and parliamentary whip Shagufta Yasmin Emily also addressed the rally.

Louhajang Upazila Awami League President Fakir Abdul Hamid presided over the event.

  1. Madam Prime Minister:
You have a way with words. You are always instigating confrontation and not words of compromise. You have denigrated your party to the lowest by using your autocratic thinking. To the point that your ministers and parasites are doing the same thing what Monem Khan used to do for Ayub Khan. Ayub Khan destroyed civility in Pakistan as did Sheikh Mujib in Bangladesh. You have surpassed your father in destructive actions. Awami League must go and must go for good. It did a job that was needed before 1971 and now we do not need you all. Please exit the scene for good. Bangladesh needs fresh faces. Not the dirty old trash.

    Thanks and best regards
