Anxiety mounts for family as Khadiza still unconscious

On Thursday evening Health Minister Mohammed Nasim ignited some hope by saying that Khadizawas responding without life support at the Square Hospital where she is receiving treatment.

Khadiza was critically wounded by a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader who hacked her in a bid to kill on Oct 3.

Maternal uncle of Khadiza, Abdul Baset, speaking to bdnews24.com on Friday, he said that although she had responded without life support after two weeks of treatment, she has not regained her consciousness and so could not communicate with family members.

“There has not been much improvement. The condition remains the same,” he added.

He however he expressed satisfaction about the treatment being given by the hospital.

During a visit to the hospital to take stock of Khadiza’s condition on Thursday evening, Health Minister Nasim also said. “She can move the right side of her body. The left side is still paralysed.”

He reassured that the government would bear the cost of her treatment. Khadiza’s uncle Abdul Baset confirmed that they were not asked for any payment by the hospital authorities.

Khadiza underwent surgery on the following day of the attack. On Oct 8, treating doctors said that Khadiza was not fully conscious but was responding to pain and was under life support.
