The former RAB 11 commanding officer has been accused of killing a Juba Dal leader in Lakshmipur
Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, the RAB official “fired” in the backdrop of alleged involvement in Narayanganj killings, has been accused in the murder of a Juba Dal leader in Lakshmipur.
The accusations were brought up by the family of deceased Lakshmipur Juba Dal Joint General Secretary Iqbal Mahmud Jewel at a press conference on Tuesday.
Then RAB 11 Commanding Officer Tarek shot Jewel in the head on December 12 last year without provocation, alleged Jewel’s wife Monwara Begum.
Locals besieged the motorcade of RAB on that day in protest, she said. “They (RAB) opened fire and five people died on that day.”
The family alleged they did not receive the body after death. “Since we do not have a death certificate, police have refused to accept a case over Jewel’s death.”
December last year was marred with violence ahead of the national election in the country.
Lakshmipur police station Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Hossain said he was “unaware of the incident.”
Dhaka Tribune contacted RAB 11 Lt Col Anwarul Latif Khan over the allegations. In response, he said he was new to the position and knew nothing regarding the accusation.
The press conference was arranged at the Lakshmipur town residence of late Jewel. His father Nurul Islam, daughter Afia Maumud and brother Sohel were present.
The accusation came up at a time when the High Court has ordered arrest of the three “fired” RAB officials, including Tarek, for alleged involvement in the Narayanganj killings.
Tarek is also the son-in-law of Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, who strongly said “none of his family was tied to the Narayanganj killings.”
