Information and Technology Advisor to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said all suspected war criminals of the country will have to face trials despite their efforts to evade justice.
Joy said this at a function in Hanover, Germany that he attended as the chief guest on Wednesday, Deputy Press Secretary to the PM Ashraful Alam Khokon informed reporters.
“They may spend millions of dollars to employ lobbyists across the world but none of them will be able to evade justice,” Joy said.
The PM’s son is in Germany to attend the world’s biggest information technology fair – Centre for Office Automation, Information Technology and Telecommunication (CeBIT) in Hanover.
Local Awami League supporters and expatriates held a reception in his honour during his visit.
Joy thanked the expatriates for always standing by the country in difficult hours.
“The expatriates had stood by the people during the Great Liberation War. After the Bangabandhu’s assassination in 1975, they lent strength to the members of his family, gave them shelter, despite the odds. After 1/11, it was those living abroad who had started a movement for democracy in the country,” Joy said to the expatriates in Germany.
He appealed to them to be with the Awami League in future as well, adding that Bangladesh has not become a terrorist state or a failed state because Sheikh Hasina is in power.
He added that Bangladesh is among the world’s three fast developing nations.
There has been a ‘digital revolution’ in Bangladesh over the past seven years, said the PM’s advisor.
“We have come to work for the people of the country and not for power. Our aim is to build the Sonar Bangla of the Bangabandhu’s yet unfulfilled dream. Not a single person will be poor – that is our true goal,” he said in the programme.
