All set for Eid-ul-Fitr celebration

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on Thursday after a month of fasting.

The national moon sighting committee decided that the Eid will be celebrated in the country on Thursday as there was not report of the sighting the Shawal moon in Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The main Eid congregation will be held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the High Court at 8:30am.

However, if the weather goes bad, the main congregation will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 9:00am.

The authorities have made special arrangements for women and foreign Muslim dignitaries to say their prayers at National Eidgah.

‘We have completed all the preparations to hold the country’s main congregation at National Eidgah,’ Dhaka south city mayor Sayeed Khokon said after visiting the Eidgah.

Dhaka metropolitan police commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said earlier on Tuesday that they took all security measures to hold the main congregation peacefully.

A total of five congregations will also be held at Baitul Mukarram in the morning.

The congregations will be held at 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am and 10:45am.

Two Eid congregations will be held at Dhaka University Central Mosque at 8:00am and 9:00am.

Eid congregation will also be held at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangshad at 8:00am. Eid congregation at BUET will be held at 7:45am.

The two city corporations of Dhaka will hold more than 300 Eid congregations in the capital.

The Eid congregation at Baitul Falah Jame Mosque at Mohammadpur will be held at 8:00am, three congregations at Saydabad Arjushah Pak Darbar Sharif Bara Jame Mosque every one hour beginning at 7:30am, two congregations at Rasulbagh Jame Mosque at Dakhkhin Mugda Bank Colony at 7:30am and at 8:30am.

Preparations have also been made for holding congregations elsewhere across the country.

The country’s largest eid congregation will be held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj.

Deputy Commissioner of Kirshoreganj M Azimuddin Bisaws, also president of the Eidgah executive committee, said all  thepreparations have already been completed to hold the 189th congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr at the ground.

Chairman of Islahul Muslimeen Council and secretary general of Bangladesh Jamiatul Ulama Maulana M Farid Uddin Masud will conduct the congregation to be held at 10 am.

Like previous year, several lakh Musollis are expected to attend the congregation, he said.

There will be arrangements of two special train services to facilitate the travel of devotees.

One of the trains will leave from Mymensingh at 5:45am on the Eid day while the other will depart from Bhairab at 6 am. The two trains will set off on their return trip at 12 noon.

Police have taken special security measures for smooth holding of the Eid congregation, police super M Anwar Hossain Khan said.

The first Eid congregation on this ground was held in 1828.

Muslims across the world will seek divine blessings of Allah at Eid prayers for peace, progress and prosperity.

Law enforcement agencies have taken special measures in the city to ensure security to the people during the Eid festival.

President Md Abdul Hamid, prime minister Sheikh Hasina, leader of the opposition in parliament Raushan Ershad and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia greeted the Muslims in the country and all over the world on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

President Abdul Hamid will exchange greetings with the top tier of government, elites and diplomats at Bangabhaban in the morning.

Hasina will exchange Eid greetings with people from all walks of society on the Eid day at her official residence, Ganabhaban, in the morning.

Khaleda will exchange Eid greetings with eminent citizens and foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka. The Eid reception will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the morning.

Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private television channels will air special programmes and newspapers will carry special supplements to mark the occasion.

National flags would be hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and all military establishments.

National flags and flags inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’ will be hoisted at important traffic islands and light posts in the capital.

Hospitals, children’s homes and jails will serve special meals for the inmates.

Bangladesh missions abroad will also celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, an official handout said.
