The fall of the Awami League regime is now a matter of time, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Sunday, the 48th day of the party’s non-stop blockade.
The BNP’s assistant secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the ‘illegitimate’ AL government was trying to secure recognition and sympathy abroad but it has been rejected by all international quarters.
“The government which has been rejected everywhere is now counting days for its collapse. Its fall is now only a matter of time,” he observed in a statement.
The UN chief, a human right delegation of European Parliament and the US secretary of state called for ending violence and holding dialogue to resolve the political crisis. However, the AL government outright rejected such offers.
The BNP leader claimed that the government has failed to draw sympathy of international community by employing all efforts to brand as militancy the political crisis arising out of controversial and boycotted polls.
“The government has embraced a desperate situation of killing indiscriminately,” Salahuddin added.
In this context, he alleged that the police killed Gailajhara upazila student leader Tipu Hauladar and Jasas leader Kabir Hosain in the so-called ‘cross fire’.
Vehemently criticising this kind of extra-judicial killing, he said, “Those, who are involved in this kind of killings, would be brought to face a trial under International Crimes Tribunal book.”
He also reiterated the party’s position that those, who would fall victim of such killings during the movement, will be honoured as national heroes.
