In his brief address prior to taking out a rally by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal from in front of their Nayapaltan central office, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir warned that people would foil Awami League’s all evil designs ousting it through a movement.
Referring to AL general secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that their party men will have to escape with the money they earned if their party quits power, the BNP leader said, ‘He (Quader) admitted that they amassed wealth illegally. That’s why he told his party colleagues that they’ll have to cling to power illegally by force. We condemn his remarks.’
Speaking at a meeting of the party in Chittagong’s Panchlaish, Quader asked the ruling party activists not to misuse power. ‘You’ll have to run here and there with the money you have made if the party doesn’t remain in power.’
Fakhrul alleged that workers are being repressed and deprived of their rights as the current government has been in power without people’s mandate.
He urged the workers to get united to install a pro-people government and realise their rights. ‘This government is anti-people and anti-workers one. They’ve been in power by force. We must oust it through a strong movement.’
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said the working class still does not get their justified rights. ‘They’re not safe in their workplaces. Hundreds of workers are getting killed in their workplaces in various accidents.’
He alleged that the workers are not getting fair wages for their labour as the government has not yet formed the national wage commission. ‘An elected government is a must to get rid of the situation.’
Sramik Dal president Anwar Hossain and BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also spoke at the gathering.
Later, several hundreds of leaders and activists of Sramik Dal and BNP brought out the rally which ended at Nayapaltan after parading Kakrail and Shantinagar crossings.
