Terming the Awami League-led government an ‘outcome of conspiracy hatched during the so-called 1/11 regime’, the BNP’s senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Tuesday said it may face a sudden fall as it has no foundation.
Speaking at a discussion, he also said the current government is implementing the ‘evil designs’ made by the Fakhruddin-Moyeenuddin-led 1/11 administration in 2007, reports UNB news agency.
“This government has no basic foundation as it has been in power by resorting to killings, enforced disappearances and repressive acts. It seems to me the government may collapse all of a sudden,” said the BNP leader.
All Community Forum, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the programme in memory of BNP standing committee member Hannan Shah who died on 27 September.
Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, said prime minister Sheikh Hasina has ‘annihilated democracy’ by resorting to a ‘brutal policy for implementing the 1/11 regime’s conspiracy’.
“We’re now going through a though test to restore democracy. Though it’s uncertain when we’ll be successful, we must continue our efforts to overcome this situation,” he told his party colleagues.
Recalling Hannan Shah’s courageous role in foiling a plot to split BNP after the 1/11 political changeover, the BNP leader said he had taken a position in favour of BNP risking his life. “He (Hannan) sincerely worked for BNP until the last day of his life.”
Mentioning that the 1/11 political changeover a period for gaining political experience for Khaleda Zia, he said, she couldn’t have identified who are real or fake friends or her enemies had there been no 1/11 episode.
Gayeshwar, however, doubted whether Khaleda still can identify the real and fake leaders of her party.
Criticising BNP leaders who have been playing an inactive role in the party’s movement and political programmes, he urged them to involve in the party activities without expecting to make personal gains.
