Launching a broadside at the Awami League general secretary for his remark that dialogue is not possible with the opposition, senior BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday said the ruling party leaders are making reckless remarks as they have got unnerved.
“The ruling party leaders from the top to the bottom are making unguarded remarks as they have become nervous fearing the loss of power,” he said.
Mosharraf, also a BNP standing committee member, came up with the remarks at a civic meeting arranged by Swadhinata Forum at the Jatiya Press Club.
He termed Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam’s Friday’s remarks about dialogue with the opposition self-contradictory, and said the AL secretary general said this out of nervousness.
“Syed Asharf has made self-contradictory remarks. He yesterday (Friday) said no compromise with the opposition. Earlier, he had said all the crises will be resolved through discussions. Form this it can be understood that he has become nervous,” Mosharraf added.
He alleged that the government is campaigning for holding the next election under a partisan administration as it knows the ruling party will suffer a debacle if the polls are held under a non-party administration.
The BNP leader also warned the regime that they would not allow it to return to power through holding a lopsided election under a partisan government.
Mosharraf alleged that the government is running the county in a one-party Baksal style. “People have got fed-up with the misrule of this government. They now want a regime change.”
He also claimed that people through the elections to the five city corporations extended their support to the arrangement of the next election under a non-party caretaker government.
The former minister said the ruling party pulled down the billboards they hung on roadsides as people have understood their false campaign with it.
