“The nature of the Awami league leadership has changed. Once it (the leadership) was controlled by the middle class, but now it is in the hands of the plundering wealthy,” Selim said at a programme on Thursday.
“So, now it is impossible for the party to uphold the ideals of Bangabandhu,” he added.
The CPB arranged the programme to mark the death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu like previous year.
Selim alleged that paying tributes to the nation’s founding father had become “just a formality.”
“Now, there is no scarcity of people who place flowers on his photos. But the history would have been different had only one percent of them protested (against his assassination) on that day (in 1975),” he said.
Selim urged the government to initiate efforts to extract from the archives of Bangladesh, USA, India, Pakistan and other countries all the information and documents relating to the killing of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and make them public.
Speaking at the programme, CPB General Secretary Syed Abu Zafar said, “Tributes to the memory of Bangabandhu should be paid by re-introducing the Constitution of 1972.”
He also demanded execution of the killers of Bangabandhu who are currently hiding abroad.
