Al Azhar campus torched by Brotherhood

Supporters of the Muslim brotherhood torched the Al Azhar University campus at, Cairo, Egypt.

Students denied starting blazes in the business faculty, where exams had to be postponed, and the agriculture faculty.On last Wednesday the organisation was declared as a ‘terrorist organisation’ by Egyptian government. It has also been banned since last September, reports BBC.

Al Azhar, one of the main centres of Sunni Muslim learning, has been the scene of repeated clashes between Islamist students and police in recent months.

Authorities have cracked down on the Brotherhood since July, when Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, who belongs to the group, was deposed by the army.

Earlier three people died on Friday as police fought Brotherhood supporters in Cairo, southern Minya and the Nile Delta.

Mr. Moorsi, the first to be elected democratically in Egypt after the ‘Arab spring’ was thrown out of the regime on last July amidst huge protests. Since then his party Muslim brotherhood has been facing wrath of people and government forces.
