Within two weeks of resignation of vice-chairman of BNP Shamsher Mubin Chowdhury, party’s Central Executive Committee member MM Shahriar Rumi has resigned from the party, willing to return to his previous party Awami League.

Rumi told the Dhaka Tribune over phone that he had sent his resignation letter to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia through courier service.

“I have resigned from all the posts of the party including the senior vice-chairman of Faridpur district unit BNP.”

Rumi now wants to back to the Awami League to uphold Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s ideology.

“I think all the forces of Liberation War and those who fought for liberation war under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should get united. That is why, I have resigned from the BNP,” he explained.

Rumi left the Awami League as he did not get nomination for Faridpur 5 constituency in 2001 election and joined the BNP on May 4, 2002.
