Five admit to killing veteran photojournalist, details will be provided in a press briefing
Five people, including the prime suspect, were held for the murder of octogenarian photojournalist Aftab Ahmed nineteen days after the killing.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) made the detentions in raids conducted in the capital and Gazipur on Sunday night, officials said.
Driver Kabir was detained as the prime suspect along with four others, RAB Additional Director General (operations) Colonel Ziaul Ahsan said.
The five detainees admitted to killing the Ekushey Padak-winning photojournalist for money in primary interrogation, according to the official.
In reply to a query, Ziaul Ahsan said law enforcers were yet to retrieve the stolen money.
Details will be revealed later in a press conference at the RAB headquarters, the elite force’s spokesperson ATM Habibur Rahman said.
On December 25, law enforcers recovered the bound-up body of photojournalist Aftab Ahmed from his house in Rampura.
His family claimed that he was murdered for the stash of money Aftab used to keep in the house. Driver Kabir, the main suspect, was on the run since the murder.
