Adi-SP withdrawn for Birdem incident

The Home Ministry has withdrawn an Additional Superintendent of Police (Adi-SP) of Dhaka district ABM Masud Hossain and attached with Police Headquarters for his alleged involovement with attacks on Birdem doctors.

Kamrul Ahsan, senior information officer of district headquarters, told the Dhaka Tribune that Masud Hossain, who was among the Tuesday’s attackers, has been withdrawn and attached in the district headquarters in the afternoon.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Administration and Discipline of the Police Headquarters Benoy Krishna Bala told BSS that a two-member probe body has been formed to investigate into the matter.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Detective Branch (East) Jahangir Hossain Matobbar has been made the chief of the committee and Adi-SP Dhaka Shyamal Kumar Mukharjee its member.

The committee has been instructed to submit its investigation report within three days, the DIG added. The doctors of BIRDEM Hospital demanded exemplary punishment of Adi-SP Masud and his accomplices who reportedly assaulted two doctors of the hospital alleging negligence to duty.

Doctors at Birdem Hospital went on strike on Tuesday morning protesting an alleged attack on their colleagues by the family of a patient who had died on Sunday night.

According to the doctors, relatives of the patient Sirajul Islam, assaulted a female doctor and vandalised the hospital’s 14th floor of the hospital after he died on Sunday night. They also claimed Additional Police Superintendent Masud was among the attackers.
