BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has advised the government to accept the opposition’s demand for a caretaker government.
She said the opposition will accept the outcome of the election even if the ruling coalition emerges victors.
She was speaking at an Iftar programme jointly organised by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at National Press Club premises on Wednesday.
“I will tell the government this, hold discussions and bring back non-party government. We will welcome you if you win.”
The chief of opposition went on, “There was vote rigging and terror in the by-elections to Bhola and Brahmanbaria. The same happened in Kishoreganj. No election was fair under this government and they will never be.”

If the BNP returns to power it will try all the crimes that were committed by this government and bring back good governance to the country, she added.
Khaleda criticised the abuse of journalists that took place during the tenure of this government.
“A total of 18 journalists were killed under this government. The killers of journalist couple Sagar, Runi has not been brought to justice.”
She claimed Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were murdered because they were trying to collect evidence of the government’s corruption.
Khaleda said, “The killers came to their house to murder them. No valuables were taken from their home, just one laptop, and that is because it contained evidence of the government’s corruption.”
“The government has a plan to remain in power forever. The government knows it can never come to power after their defeat in the five city corporation elections.
“So they don’t want the polls to be held under a non-party government,” the BNP chief further noted.
