Denouncing the killing of Buet student Abrar Fahad, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the incident has manifested that the government wants to continue its ‘autocratic’ rule by eliminating dissenting voices, UNB reports.
In a statement, he said, “The level of misrule of the current regime has become unbridled. The despotic government has spread panic by staining its hand with the blood of its dissidents so that no one dares to speak, write and raise their voices against its misdeeds and wrongdoings.”
The BNP leader said ‘criminals’ brutally killed Abrar as he protested the government’s anti-state deals with India. “The ruthless murder of Buet’s meritorious student Abrar has exposed once again that the government wants to maintain its Hitler-like autocratic rule by eliminating the dissenting voices.”
He warned that people will not allow the government to cling onto power by eliminating its dissidents. “People of Bangladesh won’t hesitate to wage a movement against snatching of the freedom of expression.”
Fakhrul prayed for eternal peace of Abrar’s departed soul and demanded immediate arrest of his killers and their exemplary punishment.
“The overall situation gives an impression that we’re living in a death valley,” he said, adding that people have become dumb due to the ‘dangerous misrule’ by the government.
