Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia has requested the party leaders and activists to refrain from celebrating her birthday this year in the current crises-ridden situation of the country and pray for her instead.
The BNP chief’s press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan said Khaleda gave such instruction ahead of her birthday that coincides with August 15, the National Mourning Day.
Senior leaders of the party remained mum on the issue but party insiders said there would be no celebration at the party chief’s office midnight past Sunday.
Khaleda used to cut cake midnight past August 14 at her office for long which sharply criticised by ruling Awami League supporters.
The Awami League supporters say Khaleda intentional celebrate birthday on August 15 to malign the National Mourning Day as there are controversies over her actual date of birth.
