BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been staying in BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office since Friday morning to avoid arrest as there is a warrant against him.
Rizvi who went to the BNP chief’s office on Friday morning to speak at a press briefing of the party did not come out of it as of 6:00pm on Saturday since some law enforcers took position in the area apparently to arrest him.
Earlier on July 25, a Dhaka court issued warrants for the arrest of Rizvi and seven others in a case filed for allegedly exploding bombs in the capital’s Pallabi area last year.
Rizvi’s close aide and Swechchhasebak Dal joint secretary Aminul Islam who is also with the BNP leader said, ‘We saw many law enforcers roaming around the office even after the BNP’s press briefing on Friday morning. We’ve information they’ll arrest Rizvi if he comes out of it.’
Another BNP leader said pro-BNP lawyers are preparing to move the High Court soon with a petition seeking its order not to harass Rizvi and allow him to surrender before the court without any hindrance.
He said Rizvi is unlikely to come out of the office until the HC dispose of his petition to be filed.
Rizvi could not be reached for comment as his cell-phone was found switched off.
