The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (CIID) has seized 16 petty cartons of foreign currencies including Indian Rupees from a container from Chittagong Port’s Yard Number 1 area.
Till filing of this report at 9:30pm, the CIID authorities said they were continuing their searching in the container which came from Dubai.
The number of the cartons with foreign currencies will increase, said CIID sources.
None was nabbed in this connection while the amount could not be confirmed by the authorities at the time of dispatching the report, said CIID sources.
The CIID’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Hossain Ahmed said the concerned officials found a personal baggage in the container when they conducted scan search at around 6:30pm.
“I heard from the on-duty officials over phone that a carton of US Dollar was seized while the drive is going on,” said Hossain while talking to Dhaka Tribune over mobile phone.
“We found four master cartons in it while a total of 16 petty cartons were found which were full of Indian Rupees,” said CIID’s Assistant Director Syed Mukaddesh Hossain.
Chittagong Port’s Director (Admin) Jafor Alam said: “We heard the matter of the CIID’s recovery while enough security personnel of the port were deployed in the area and the container was cordoned by the port’s security personnel.”
