BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has given financial assistance to the family of late freedom fighter Ayub Khan who committed suicide last month after allegedly being insulted by the Liberation War Affairs Secretary.
The BNP chief handed over a considerable amount of money to late freedom fighter Ayub Khan’s family members as assistance at her Gulshan office on Sunday night, said Khaleda’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan on Monday.
He also consoled Ayub Khan’s wife Khadiza Begum and his two sons and two daughters.
BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman, organising secretary Golam Akbar Khandaker and Muktijoddha Dal president Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat were, among others, present.
On July 7, Ayub Khan, 62, a former commander of Chittagong’s Satkania upazila unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad, took his life swallowing poison in his hotel room in Dhaka after allegedly being insulted by Liberation War Affairs Secretary MA Hannan.
A suicide note was recovered from the deceased’s possession where he wrote he committed suicide after being insulted and pushed away by the secretary.
However, the secretary turned down the allegation brought against him by Ayub.
