A major earthquake, measuring 7.9 in the Richter scale, rocked Bangladesh, Nepal and India.
The quake, epicentred in Nepal, left to several buildings collapsed in Nepal capital Kathmandu.
According to the US Geological survey, the epicentre of the qauke was 29km east of Lamjung and was 2km deep, making it a shallow quake.
A shallow quake is usually more dangerous because the amount of energy released is focused over a smaller area.
The tremor also left buildings to develop cracks and tilt in several places across Bangladesh, including in the capital Dhaka.
At least 449 people died in Nepal, reports Reuters.
A woman died in Bangladesh while being evacuating from her home during the quake, which struck around 12.16pm local time.
The death was reported from the Northern district of Pabna.
Pabna police OC Ahsanur Haque said that a woman died after being pushed hard against a wall during evacuation from her home during the quake.
The victim has been identified as Rokeya Khanam, about 50.
In Dhaka, residents of high-rise buildings were seen running down in panic as apartments swung.Two buildings were reported to develop cracks and tilt at the capital Dhaka’s Banani and Banghsal.
Similar incidents have been reported from the Gazipur, Netrokona, Chandpur and Rajshahi.
Similar scenes were reported from high rise buildings in India’s Calcutta.
Many buildings collapsed in India’s Assam and Bihar states and also in the Darjeeling hill region and foothills around it.
