BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, now in London, turns 50 on Thursday.
Tarique, the eldest son of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman and its current chairperson Khaleda Zia, was born on November 20, 1965 in Bogra.
BNP and its associate bodies have chalked out various programmes to celebrate his birthday in a befitting manner.
The programmes include discussions, milad mahfils, voluntary blood donation, art competitions, screening documentaries, health service, prayers and recitation from the holy Quran.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies will cut cakes at the zero hours on Thursday in presence of Khaleda at her Gulshan office and party’s Nayapaltan headquarters.
BNP has chalked out a two-day programme to celebrate his birthday.
As part of the programme, the party arranged a discussion at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh on Wednesday. Khaleda was present at the programme, but she did not address it.
Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a BNP front organisation, arranged a voluntary blood donation programme and free health service from 10am in front of the party’s Nayapaltan office.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student associate body of BNP, will hold a discussion at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh on Thursday.
BNP will also hold a Milad Mahfil at its Nayaplatan central office after Asr prayers.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam issued a message on Wednesday greeting Tarique on the occasion.
Tarique has been staying in London since 2008.
He was arrested on March 7, 2007 during the then army-backed interim regime and freed from jail on bail on September 3, 2008.
Tarique left for London for treatment eight days later. He is an accused in a number of cases, including the August 21 grenade attack ones.
