D-8 Secretary-General Dr Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi is scheduled to arrive here on Saturday on a four-day official visit to Bangladesh.
During the visit, Mousavi will attend the 8th D-8 meeting of Directors-General and expert group on Civil Aviation from August 24-25 in Dhaka.
The meeting is part of the priority sector cooperation identified in the D-8 Organisation.
Mousavi is expected to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali, the Finance Minister, the Commerce Minister, the Industries Minister, the Civil Aviation & Tourism Minister, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the Foreign Secretary.
Mousavi will leave Dhaka on August 27.
D-8 is an inter-governmental organisation for development cooperation comprising eight countries — Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
It was established in 1997 through the Istanbul Declaration of Summit of Heads of State/Government and the Secretariat is headquartered in Istanbul.
The main objective of D-8 is declared to be socio-economic development in accordance with following principles: peace instead of conflict, dialogue instead of confrontation, cooperation instead of exploitation, justice instead of discrimination, equality instead of discrimination and democracy instead of oppression.
Mousavi assumed the office of Secretary-General in January 2013 and since then he has given a special thrust to accelerate cooperation in priority and other areas of cooperation within the D-8 Community. This is born out of the belief that the countries with shared belief must work together to achieve prosperity and uplift of the socio-economic conditions of the peoples of the region.
