A court in India’s West Bengal state has ordered Nur Hossain and his two accomplices to fourteen days in judicial custody on Monday.
Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the multiple murders at Narayanganj, was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, North 24-Parganas district, on Monday with his accomplices, Sumon Khan and Ohidur Rahman Shamim.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Sumitra Roy heard the prosecution and ordered Nur Hossain, Sumon Khan and Ohidur Rahman Shamim to 14 days in judicial custody.
No lawyer appeared for the three Bangladesh nationals.
Magistrate Roy said her court is aware of a request for extradition from Bangladesh for Nur Hossain, Sumon Khan and Ohidur Rahman Shamim.
“It is for the government to take a decision on extradition,” observed magistrate Sumitra Roy. “That matter is not in the purview of this court.”
She said that there was a prima facie case of violation of Arms Act and Foreigners Act by Nur Hossain, Sumon Khan and Ohidur Rahman.
On June 15, a day after the three were arrested from Indraprastha Apartment in Baguiati near Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas airport, they were sent on eight days in police remand byEdwin Lepcha, second judicial magistrate in North 24 Parganas district court at Barasat.
The absconding Narayanganj councillor, prime accused in the multiple murders case, was booked under Arms Act and Foreigners Act for illegal trespass into Indian territory without valid travel document and for illegal possession of a weapon.
He was produced in the district court in Barasat by West Bengal police on that day.
Magistrate Lepcha observed there was a prima facie case against Nur Hossain on the charges registered by police.
So the remand request of the police to facilitate interrogation was allowed.
Hossain is believed to be the mastermind of the Narayanganj multiple murders, for which some RAB officers are now in the dock.
Assassinated councillor Nazrul’s relatives allege that the RAB officers carried out the murders at the behest of Nur Hossain and then helped him escape to India.
