It was a just a signature. But the signature made Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emotional. It was the signature of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was signed 40 years back.
Bangabandhu put the signature both in Bangla and English — Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, dated 29.10.73. He, however, did not make any remark. At that time, he was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday became emotional when she saw the signature at the visitors’ book kept at Japan National Press Club (JNPC).
Bangabandhu visited the JNPC on October 29 in 1973 during his tour to Japan. After visiting the Press Club, he signed the visitor’s book.
After long four decades, Bangabandhu’s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, who is now also the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, visited the Japan National Press Club on Wednesday. It was Hasina’s last day on a four-day official tour to Japan.
The Prime Minister went to the Press Club around 10 am and first saw the visitors’ book in which Bangabandhu put his signature 40 years back.
Seeing the signature of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina became very emotional which she expressed during her interaction with the local Japanese media in the conference room at the National Press Club.
“I became quite emotional after seeing the signature and thanked the (Japan National) Press Club authorities for preserving the historic signature,” she said.
The Prime Minister later signed the visitors’ book with comments in Bangla –‘Amar antorik shuveccha roilo (my sincere wishes)’.
She also presented a painting having landscape of Bangladesh, while the JNPC authorities presented her some gifts.
Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin, PM’s Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, ERD Secretary Md Mejbahuddin, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, PM’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil and Deputy Press Secretary Bijan Lal Dev were, among others, present.
JNPC Secretary General Shuichi Itabu gave the introductory speech on the occasion.
