A fire has burned down several shops at the Nilkhet book market in capital Dhaka.
The flames which ignited around 10pm Wednesday was doused within 30 minutes, said a Fire Service control room official.
There are several book markets at Nilkhet. The fire gutted the shops between the Islamia market, which is on the west side, and Babupura market.
Fire Service Assistant Director Rafiqul Islam said at least seven shops were gutted.
Several fire-righting units doused the fire.
What caused the fire was not immediately known, but fire-fighters suspected an electric short-circuit.
The markets were closed on Wednesday as Bangladesh observed the Independence Day.
