Kader Siddiqui to appeal against nomination cancellation

Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) president Abdul Kader Siddiqui on Wednesday said he will challenge in the High Court the Election Commission’s cancellation of his nomination for the March 29 by-election to Tangail-8 (Basail-Sakhipur).

“The Election Commission has illegally cancelled my nomination. We’re thinking moving the High Court and appeal against the decision,” he said.

Kader Siddiqui made the remarks while giving his instant reaction to reporters at his residence after the district election officer scrapped his nomination.

He said he wanted to join the polls as part of a movement strategy, though his party boycotted January 5 polls.

Earlier, the local returning officer cancelled the KSJL chief’s nomination for the by-election on charge of loan default.

The Tangail-8 seat (Basail-Sakhipur) fell vacant following the death of AL MP Shawkat Momen Shajahan, father of Anupam Shajahan, on January 20.
