A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to singer Arfin Rumey in a case filed by his first wife under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 Tanzila Ismail granted bail to the singer on condition that he would settle the dispute with Lamia Islam.
Earlier on February 13, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 Arifur Rahman sent Arfin Rumey to jail canceling his bail in the case.
The court had also fixed March 23 for framing charges against the accused.
His bail was scrapped as he failed to give his wife a monthly amount of Tk 20,000 and open a fixed deposit receipt (FDR) account of Tk 20 lakh in his son’s name as per the condition of his bail.
Lamia Islam, 1st wife of Rumey, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station October 12 last year on charge of torturing her. Rumey’s brother Yeasin was also made accused in the case.
Rumey secured bail on the following day on a surety of Tk 20,000 in the presence of plaintiff Lamia.
He got married with Lamia in 2008. The Rumey-Lamia couple has a son named Arian.
Rumey married Kamrun Nesa, a Bangladeshi-born American citizen, on October 24, 2012.
