Raushan Ershad has said she will be the Leader of the Opposition in the new Parliament.
Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad had given his consent, she said on Wednesday.
Raushan Ershad is Jatiya Party’s presidium member-1 and also wife of the Jatiya Party chief.
“Our party chairman has said that since he is former President, he would not like to become the Opposition Leader,” she said at a press briefing after a
gazette published the names of the newly elected MPs.
“He said, ‘You become the Opposition Leader. You will be in my prayers’,” she said with party leaders next to her at the Jatiya Sangsad Complex.
Jatiya Party presidium member Anisul Islam Mahmud, ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, Kazi Firoze Rashid and Mujibul Haq Chunnu were present.
Former dictator Ershad’s brother GM Quader, however, was not present. But Raushan said, “He is with us.”
Ershad, now in hospital, will also take oath as MP, said the former First Lady Raushan Ershad. She said she would lead the other party MPs to the swearing-n ceremony.
