There are two dimensions in the main opposition BNP’s present agitation program. The program does not only contain novelty but there are intellectual exercises also to attract the new generation.
Various sources of the party informed that all these exercises are aimed at forcing the government to meet their demand of caretaker government.
A number of leaders of the party quoting party chairperson Khaleda Zia said they are taking both agitation and preparation for election.
The source said Awami League, during the last election, was successfully able to draw support of the new generation giving priority to bring the war criminals to trial. This time BNP is also planning to project the justification of their demands for caretaker system to the new generation.
One source, wishing anonymity, told banglanews that they are giving threats of strong agitation for getting back the care taker system. But what will be the nature of that agitation is still to take shape or without any elaboration explanation. Though Khaleda Zia uttered the new types of politics but she did not give any explanation of her philosophy.
Two Dimensional Programs:
This leader said that the government is plunged with serious criticism on the one hand and on the other hand after BNP’s victory in five city polls people have turned their faces towards BNP with demands and expectations.
Leaders and workers have become more active than before. So, the program is coming ahead to fulfill the demands of both party activists and common people.
He added that the decision to this end might come from the meeting of the standing committee to be held on August 20.
At the demand of the workers the party council might be held sometime in September. After the council all affiliated and other bodies will be revamped to make the party workers rejuvenated.
Steps for the Expectation of the Common people:
To fulfill the expectations of the common people the BNP leaders will take a country wide tour. They will work at the grass root level. Not only the leaders but after their successful ground preparation Khaleda Zia herself will meet the people and try to drum up support for BNP.
When drew the attention of BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed MP told banglanews that the date of the standing committee meeting is not yet fixed and moreover there will be no council before election. I have no information about final movement, however there will be strong agitation, he added.
Another standing committee member MK Anwar MP told banglanews that there is no environment for holding council of the party now. Many workers and leaders are now behind the bar. Shutdown and seize like programs can herald our next program.
Initiative to attract the new generation:
The party is taking fresh initiatives to draw attention of the new generation. They will build information through multimedia after doing vigorous research. They will bring forward the destructive movements of Awami League it had waged in 1996 for caretaker system, a source said.
A BNP leader said many of the new generation do not know what Awami League did for caretaker government in 1996. Just to make them aware the documentary pictures are being prepared.
Firstly, it will be presented in writing next the visual will come. Work on written informative documents has already started. One source associated with this task told the documents will project what Awami League said and what they did in 1996 for caretaker system, will be put to the new generation in a newer style.
Not only those documents, but the committee formed by the present government to review the model of the future caretaker system headed by Suranjit Sengupta along with the opinions of the committee might be projected.
Even the opinion of the constitutional amendment committee headed by Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury might also be included in our informative documents.
The BNP source said that our documents will project how Awami League has declared their own created child as illegal. The document will be presented to the people that how Awami League coming to power through caretaker system poll in 1996 had abolished their own system to retain in power permanently in “Baksal” style.
Acting secretary general of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also gave similar indications on Monday last. In an Iftar mahfil on that day Mirza Fakhrul told that he heard from a respected Professor that Awami League had published three books on the justification of caretaker system. However, in near future he will speak elaborately on it, he added.
Both Moudud and MK Anwar did not elaborate on the ongoing work of the documentary pictures who told that they are not aware of the matter.
Moudud added that these are all wishful thinking while MK Anwar said, however, they would compel the government to fulfill the demand of restoration of caretaker system through involving mass people.
