The BNP on Tuesday alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ‘directly interfering’ to help the Awami League-backed candidate to win the maiden Gazipur City Corporation polls.
Party Standing Committee member MK Anwar put up a formal complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad at the office in the morning.
Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was also present with him at the time.
Anwar discussed the latest situation with the CEC and told him of their worries over the Gazipur city polls scheduled for July 6.
The Senior BNP leader later told reporters, “The Prime Minister has directly interfered in the Gazipur City Corporation elections. A cell has also been formed at her official residence for this purpose.”
“This cell aims to influence the election. The Prime Minister is directly working to help the Awami League’s candidate win.”
