“We’ve decided to forge an alliance with BNP, but the mechanism for that is yet to be finalised,” Bikolpadhara joint secretary general Mahi B Chowdhury told UNB on Friday night.
He said the decision of being a political partner of BNP was taken at an extended meeting of the party held at BDB President Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury’s Baridhara residence in the city.
Mahi said they will also launch a strong movement against the government to establish people’s democratic rights.
“Our extended meeting is yet to conclude. We’ll elaborately discuss the possible process of making an alliance with the BNP at the meeting,” he said adding that there’re different opinions of the party leaders of being a partner of the 18-party alliance as its 19th partner.
He, however, said the decision is almost final that they will be with BNP to participate in the next polls, whatever the process may be.
The BDB joint secretary general said they will formally announce the decision in this regard within a few days.
Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, a close associate of BNP’s founder late president Ziaur Rahman, and its founding secretary general, floated Bikolpodhara Bangladesh with some mid-ranking BNP leaders after quitting BNP in 2004.
