CYCLONE MAHASEN Ctg, Cox’s Bazar airports shut down

The authorities of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar airports closed the airports from Wednesday afternoon due to inclement weather caused by cyclone Mahasen.

The closure will be effective for indefinite period starting from 4:00pm.

The cyclone which approached within around 700 kilometres of Bangladesh coastline Wednesday noon prompted danger signal No. 7 at Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar ports and signal No. 5 at Mongla port.

SHAH AMANAT AIRPORT

All the equipment of Shah Amanat Airport in Chittagong will be shifted by 4:00pm, our Chittagong correspondent reported quoting Rabiul Islam, manager of the airport.

“We will resume the operation after the port authorities have lowered down the signal,” the manager said.

The port authorities also asked three international aircrafts to leave the airport by 4:00pm.

The aircrafts were scheduled to leave for Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Kolkata.

COX’S BAZAR AIRPORT

The Civil Aviation Authority also cancelled the schedule of all flights at Cox’s Bazar Airport after 4:00pm, said Md Jahir Hasan, manager of the airport. A cargo plane of Bismillah Airways left for Jessore around 10:00am.

The authorities also cancelled two flights of Novo Airways and Regent Airways which were scheduled to land respectively at 1:00pm and 1:10pm from Dhaka, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reported quoting the manager.

Meanwhile, a flight of united airways from Dhaka is scheduled to land around 2:50pm.
