Hefajat-e Islam will not be allowed to hold further programme, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir said Monday afternoon.
“If necessary, the Hefajat men won’t be allowed to come out of their houses,” the minister told reporters during a press briefing at his ministry.
The minister’s reaction came one day after Hefajat, a Qawmi-madrasa-based Islamist organisation, unleashed violence in the capital.
The bodies of nine people including two lawmen were found from Shapla Chattar early, the venue of the post-blockage rally of Hefajat, Monday morning.
The minister also termed Sunday’s violence as a “planned genocide”.
“The government even will not allow the BNP to hold its May 6 programme as the party did not get permission for holding the rally,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police imposed an embargo on rallies and processions in its area to avoid anarchy and maintain law and order.
Thousands of Hefajat men who converged on a rally in capital’s downtown Motijheel on Sunday were driven out by the law enforcers early Monday.
