Bangladesh won their first ever Test on Zimbabwe soil securing a 143-run victory in the second and final Test after lunch on the fifth day at the Harare Sports Club on Monday.
Shakib Al Hasan wrapped up the match by trapping Kyle Jarvis leg before wicket for seven. Hamilton Masakadza remained unbeaten on 111. The pair delayed the inevitable with a 38-run stand that took the hosts to 257 all out.
The result means the tourists shared the two-match series. Bangladesh, who scored 391 all out in their first innings, lost the first Test by 335 runs on the fourth day at the same venue last week.
Victory for Bangladesh was the second against their opponents in seven Tests. The previous six Tests had resulted in five wins for the home side and a draw.
It is Bangladesh’s fourth Test win, third overseas.
Zimbabwe, who required 401 runs to claim victory, lost their way after resuming the post-lunch session on 194-6.
Debutant Ziaur Rahman edged the Tigers closer to victory after inducing Graeme Cremer (3) into an edge that was taken at first slip. It left Zimbabwe on 214 for eight.
Ziaur earlier struck immediately after lunch when he dismissed Richmond Mutumbami.
Mutumbami was on 12 when he went too hard at a cover drive and got a thick inside edge.
Robiul Islam, the Man of the Series, then had Keegan Meth trapped lbw with Zimbabwe on 219-9.
Ziaur finished with 4-63 and Shakib bagged 3-52.
Zimbabwe survived the first hour of the morning’s play adding 38 runs to their overnight 138-4 before losing their first wicket.
Mohammad Ashraful broke Shingi Masakadza’s resistance after trapping him lbw for 24. He tried to sweep a tossed up full delivery and missed.
Five runs later, Shohag Gazi sent Elton Chigumbura (2) back when the right-hander was caught trying to clear short midwicket.
Hamilton Masakadza who completed his fourth Test half-century before lunch.
Captain Mushfiqur Rahim has been adjudged the Man of the Match.
