Unidentified miscreants on Monday detonated several crude bombs at ‘Janatar Mancha’ and six other places in Brahmanbaria town, police said.
However, none was injured in the explosions, they added.
Eyewitnesses said two youths reached the ‘Janatar Mancha’ riding a motorcycle around 5.15pm and then exploded four handmade crude bombs.
Soon after that, more crude bombs exploded in front of the Press Club and Circuit House, Kumarsheel intersection, Pouratala rail gate and other places of the town.
Additional Superintendent of Police Jahid Hossain told bdnews24.com there was no report of casualties in the attacks by the two masked youths.
“They exploded the crude bombs only to spread panic,’’ Superintendent of Police (SP) of Brahmanbaria district Mohammad Moniruzzaman said after visiting the ‘Janatar Mancha’.
Awami League leaders and activists of Brahmanbaria unit took out a rally protesting the bomb attacks.
Janatar Mancha, or podium of the people, has been set up at different places of the country in support of the Shahbagh movement demanding death penalty to the war criminals.
The movement has invited anger of Jamaat-e-Islami, whose several top leaders are standing trials for war crimes perpetrated during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.
