Justice AKM Asaduzzaman made ACC chief

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, who retired from the Appellate Division in February, has been appointed chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission as part of the anti-graft body’s reconstitution.

Former secretary Jahangir Alam Khan and former National Board of Revenue tax commissioner Md Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan have been appointed ACC commissioners.

According to a notification issued yesterday and signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, the appointments were made under the ACC Act, 2004.

Under the Act, the ACC chairman will receive a salary, allowances, status and other benefits equivalent to those of a Supreme Court Appellate Division judge, while the two commissioners will receive benefits and status equivalent to those of a High Court Division judge.

The anti-graft watchdog had been without commissioners since March 3, when then-chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen and commissioners Mia Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brig Gen (retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid stepped down.
