Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has declared Tk 23 lakh in election expenses for Dhaka‑17 in the 13th National Parliamentary Elections held on February 12, according to a statement submitted to the Election Commission (EC) yesterday (Sunday).
The breakdown shows Tk 5.5 lakh spent on campaign activities, Tk 1.1 lakh on transport, Tk 1.8 lakh on rallies, and Tk 3.6 lakh on election camp operations. Payments to agents and staff accounted for Tk 9.84 lakh, while Tk 66,000 went to accommodation and administrative costs. Campaigning on social media cost Tk 50,000.
Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), 1972, candidates may spend up to Tk 25 lakh or Tk 10 per voter, whichever is higher. The law requires submission of election expenses to returning officers within 30 days of the official gazette of results.
As per the Conduct of Election Rules, 2008, accounts must be filed in prescribed forms with affidavits, and copies sent to the EC by registered post.
