In an advisory on Monday night, the para-military force said: “The BGB is always alert to prevent any kind of infiltration across the border.”
The BGB advisory, however, did not detail much about the measure.
BGB Deputy Director General (Media) Col Abul Hasnat Mohammad Mahmud Azam told bdnews24.com, “This message has been given considering the current elections in West Bengal, and the overall situation in Myanmar.
“This is our regular message. The BGB is always vigilant to maintain strong border security. This is nothing new.”
Latest data from the Indian Election Commission shows the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading or winning over 200 seats in the Legislative Assembly, comfortably surpassing the majority threshold on Monday.
The updates mean the BJP is set to form the next government in West Bengal, decisively ending the 15-year tenure of Mamata Banerjee as chief minister and her Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The result marks a tectonic shift in the political landscape of the eastern Indian state, which borders Bangladesh.
In West Bengal, where the BJP has never ruled, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his closest aide and Home Minister Amit Shah, and several senior BJP leaders have campaigned for weeks.
They have focused on what they called illegal immigration from Bangladesh and the weak local economy under incumbent Mamata, who has been in power since 2011.
Modi on Monday also vowed to deliver the “strictest possible action” against “infiltrators” in the state.
