The government on Sunday published a gazette on the 8th Wage Board Award for journalists, employees and workers of newspapers and news agencies, raising their salary by 75 percent.

 

The award, to be considered as the ‘8th Wage Board Award-2013’, has been shown effective from September 11, said the gazette.

 

Akram Uddin Ahmed, senior officer of the Information Ministry, said the gazette was published increasing the basic salary of the journalists, employees and workers of newspapers and news agencies by 75 percent from the 7th Wage Board Award.

 

The gazette also says all the journalists, officials and employees working in Dhaka would get 70 percent house rent on their basic salaries while the house rent would be 65 percent of the basic salaries outside the capital. The lowest grade employees would get 75 percent of their basic salaries as house rent.

 

The per month medical allowance of all the journalists, officials and employees has been fixed at Tk 1,500 from the previous Tk 1,000 while transport allowance at Tk 2,500 from Tk 1,600.

 

The government formed the 8th Wage Board on June 18 last year with retired Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque as its chairman to recommend increased wages for journalists, employees and press workers after reviewing the 7th Wage Board Award.

 

Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque submitted the recommendations to the government on June 30 last.

 

The Cabinet on August 5 formed a six-member committee, headed by Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad, to review the recommendations for implementing the 8th Wage Board, asking it to come up with its report within a month.
