73 BNP members jailed in sabotage cases

Three different courts in Dhaka on Sunday convicted and sentenced a total of 73 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party to different jail terms in three separate sabotage cases filed with the capital’s Kalabagan, Bongshal and Kotwali police stations.

Of the three cases, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Ali Haider Chowdhury sentenced 40 BNP members, including its south city unit member secretary Robiul Islam Nayan, to one and a half years of jail in a case filed with the Kalabagan police station.

Police filed the case on November 13, 2013, for obstructing the law enforcers from conducting their duties and blasting cocktails.

The court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi convicted and sentenced 25 leaders and activists of BNP to three-year imprisonment in the case filed with the Bongshal police station.

Police filed the case on September 6, 2018, for attacking police.

Meanwhile, the court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury convicted and sentenced eight BNP members to one and a half years of jail in a case filed with the Kotwali police station.

Police filed the case on October 1, 2015, for vandalising and torching vehicles.
