The BNP has alleged the government has lost control over almost all things and that there is no alternative but to overthrow it.
Speaking at a discussion on Monday, BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Like in 1972-75, the Awami League is once again destroying the economy and everything else in the country. There is no government in the country. They don’t have control over anything.”
“The outgoing German ambassador has said there are sectors in Bangladesh in which the government has failed completely.”
The BNP spokesperson said there was no alternative to overthrowing the government in order to recover from this crisis.

“The BNP was born in a democratic country and in a democratic environment,” Fakhrul said, referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s allegation that the birth of BNP was questionable.
“In 1975, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman buried the Awami League when he initiated BAKSAL. Ziaur Rahman reinstated multiparty democracy and gave rebirth to this party,” he said.
He said Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the victim of his own party. “It was the Awami League that killed President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975. Their leader Khandker Mushtaq Ahmed killed him to grab power. He was the one to introduce martial law,” he said.
“Now Awami League wants to cover that up by saying Zia is the killer,” he added.
