Pro-hartal elements torched six vehicles in separate places of the capital on Tuesday, ahead of 18-party’s 36-hour hartal beginning at 6am on Wednesday.
A bus was set afire in the city’s Science Laboratory area around 11:05 am while another at Khamarbari in Farmgate at about 2 pm. The hartal supporters torched another bus in Mirpur-1 under Shah Ali police station around 5:45 pm.
A private car was set on fire in front of the Anti Corruption Commission head office at Segunbagicha around 3:45 pm while a taxicab in New Market area at about 3:55 pm.
Besides, the hartal supporters torched a leguna (human-hauler) at Bangla Motor at about 3 pm.
There was no report of any casualty in the arson attacks.
Meanwhile, police arrested four pro-hartal activists while trying to torch a vehicle in front of Ananda Cinema Hall at Farmgate at about 2:30 pm.
Yet in another incident, the hartal supporters exploded four crude bombs at Kalabagan around 2 pm.
The opposition alliance called the shutdown demanding the release of its leaders.
