Explosion targeted at a police vehicle, local law enforcers say
At least seven people, six policemen and a child, were killed in an explosion near a police vehicle in Charsadda district, Pakistan on Wednesday morning.
The blast took place in Sarderi bazar area, local media Dawn reported. Charsadda police confirmed that the police van was attacked during a routine patrol.
A police official, Hassan Khan, told Dawn that at least six, including five policemen and a child, were dead. The police van was destroyed in the explosion.
Police sources said the van was on its way for security duty for polio immunisation workers.
Mardan range police Deputy Inspector General Saeed Wazir said the bomb weighing up to five kilograms was planted on a cycle and remotely detonated.
On Tuesday, three health workers died in an attack on a polio vaccination team in Karachi.
The explosion took place in view of local militant organisation Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP) threatening to continue its vendetta against security forces in Pakistan.
They calimed responsibility of the blast that took place in Rawalpindi on Monday that killed at least 13, including six army personnel, and injured scores others.
On Sunday, they carried out another explosion aimed at security forces in Cantt area of Bannu district wehre 20 people were killed and abut 30 were injured.
