A Bangladeshi woman and her four children have been killed in a fire in Kuwait.
Rokeya’s husband Juned Mia was out of their apartment when the five-storey building in Al-Salmiyah caught fire on Monday.
The family is from Moulvibazar district. The bodies were kept at Mubarak Hospital in Kuwait.
Kuwait News Agency reported that the firefighters rescued nine from the building, but five of them died at hospital. All the dead people are of a family of Asian origin, it said.
Bangladeshi expatriates working in Kuwait informed their relatives at Kandigaon village of Kamalganj about the deaths.
Sylhet-based Jalalabad Association’s Kuwait branch also reported the deaths on its Facebook page.
The association said the fire had originated from the blast of an air conditioner on the third floor of the building.
Smoke from the fire suffocated the five members of the Bangladeshi family in their flat, according to the post.
Zainal Abedin, a resident of Kandigaon village, told bdnews24.com that Juned was out of home during the incident.
He also said Juned’s mother is the only member of the family living in Bangladesh now.
His two brothers live in the US and the UK, Abedin said.
