At least five people went missing after a boat sank in Fatikchhari upazila’s Halda river, due to heavy current, in Chittagong this afternoon.
The missing were identified as Imon, 18, his younger brother Rahim, 13, Nurul Islam, 45, Arman, 18, and Rizvi, 12, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nazrul Islam.
The incident took place when the engine-run boat carrying a good number of passengers was crossing the river around 1:00pm, the UNO said.
All the passengers except the five managed swim ashore. On information, diver of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot.
But neither the missing or the sunken boat could be traced until last reported at dusk. Further details were awaited.
