5 lakh homeless to be rehabilitated by 2020: Land Minister

Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif said on Saturday that the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has started building houses for 10 thousand homeless families.

“The government is continuing rehabilitation of country’s homeless families and freedom fighters,” the minister said while speaking as the chief guest at a function at Baraichara village after handing over houses built for insolvent freedom fighters.

The minister said the government rehabilitated 60 thousand homeless people with land and houses from 2009 to 2013.

“The government has kept it on in the current tenure as well. Now there’s plan to rehabilitate more than 5 lakh homeless people by 2020,” he added.

He reiterated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s commitment of no homeless people in the country and said that building houses for the homeless will continue in the future.

Ishurdi Upazila Chairman Mukhlesur Rahman Mintu, political leader and government officials were present at the function, among others.
